What can four months of dedication amount to? What can four months of sweating and toiling bring? What can four months of perseverance and determination forge? The students from the THISDL Future City team, with four months of effort, not only crafted an innovative and comprehensive “C-Wave” future city project but also, through relentless hard work and perspiration, ultimately secured the Grand Prize and Best Essay Award at the 2024 National Finals of the Future City Competition, demonstrating the power of diligence and persistence.

From project preparation to the final presentation, every step embodied the students’ hard work and creativity. Centered around the theme of a “Floating City,” they meticulously designed the C-Wave project—an offshore floating city inspired by the sea and waves. In this city, technology and nature coexist harmoniously, and ecology and technology efficiently coexist, showcasing a beautiful vision and boundless imagination for future life.
本年度的城市设计论文是孩子们智慧的结晶。他们深入研究海洋生态、城市规划、能源利用等多个领域,提出了许多创新性的解决方案。论文中,大家详细阐述了C-Wave项目的设计理念、规划布局、技术应用等方面,展现了深厚的理论功底和惊人的创新能力。
This year’s urban design paper was the culmination of the students’ wisdom. They conducted in-depth research into marine ecology, urban planning, energy utilization, and other fields, proposing numerous innovative solutions. In the paper, they elaborated on the design concept, planning layout, technological applications, and other aspects of the C-Wave project, demonstrating profound theoretical knowledge and astonishing innovative capabilities.
造型精美的城市模型是孩子们创意的最直观的展现。同学们用灵巧的双手,将一个个小小的模型材料和可回收零件拼接成一座美丽的海上城市。从精致的建筑到繁忙的港口,从广阔的海洋到细腻的沙滩,每一个细节都独具匠心,体现了大家别出心裁的设计理念。
The exquisite city model was the most intuitive manifestation of the students’ creativity. With dexterous hands, they pieced together tiny model materials and recyclable parts into a beautiful offshore city. From exquisite buildings to bustling ports, from vast oceans to delicate beaches, every detail was ingeniously crafted, reflecting their unique design ideas.
精彩的现场展示与答辩更是孩子们风采的集中展现。他们自信地站在舞台上,用生动的语言和丰富的肢体语言,配合上精心制作的展板,向评委和观众们介绍着C-Wave项目的亮点与特色。面对评委的提问,他们从容不迫,用扎实的专业知识和敏锐的思维能力,赢得了评委的认可。
The impressive live presentations and defenses were a concentrated showcase of the students’ charisma. Standing confidently on stage, they introduced the highlights and features of the C-Wave project to the judges and audience using vivid language and expressive body language, accompanied by meticulously prepared display boards. Facing questions from the judges, they remained composed, winning the judges’ approval with their solid professional knowledge and keen thinking abilities.

让我们走近这座100年后的漂浮城市吧:智能预警系统是城市安全的守护者。通过先进的传感器和数据分析技术,系统能够实时监测海洋环境的变化,预警自然灾害的发生,为城市居民提供全方位的安全保障。可再生能源的应用是城市绿色发展的动力源泉。潮汐能、风能、太阳能等清洁能源被广泛应用于城市的发电、交通、建筑等领域,实现了能源的高效利用和环境的可持续发展。自生长生态沉积结构则是城市空间拓展的创新方式。Biorock生态岩石的使用,通过模拟海洋生物的沉积过程,利用生物矿化作用形成稳定的岛屿地基,为城市的持续发展提供了广阔的空间。
Let’s take a closer look at this floating city of the future, 100 years hence: The intelligent warning system is the guardian of city safety. Utilizing advanced sensors and data analysis technology, the system can monitor changes in the marine environment in real time, provide early warnings for natural disasters, and offer comprehensive safety guarantees for city residents. The application of renewable energy is the driving force behind the city’s green development. Clean energy sources such as tidal, wind, and solar power are widely used in the city’s electricity generation, transportation, construction, and other sectors, achieving efficient energy utilization and sustainable environmental development. The self-growing ecological deposition structure is an innovative approach to urban spatial expansion. The use of Biorock ecological rocks, through simulating the deposition process of marine organisms and utilizing biomineralization to form stable island foundations, provides vast space for the city’s sustained development.

THISDL’s STEAM courses integrate multiple disciplines including science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics, providing students with an exploratory learning environment. Here, students not only learn cutting-edge scientific and technological knowledge but also cultivate skills in CAD modeling, hands-on work, critical thinking, collaboration, and innovation. The implementation of STEAM courses has laid a solid foundation for students’ future development and injected new vitality into the school’s innovative education.
